Just been awarded High Rate CARE (Disability Living Allowance)…. Advice please..?

Hi there,

Originally I was claiming D.L.A at Middle Rate CARE and Low Rate MOBILITY.

Just been awarded High Rate CARE for Paranoid Schizophrenia and MOBILITY Rate staying same. But I wanted High Rate MOBILITY….

That is because I have misaligned knee caps, weak ankles from a child hood injury that sometimes give way causing me to collapse, chronic muscle pain in my legs and severe Asthma which leaves me breathless.

I believe I would qualify on the “Can only walk a short distance before feeling severe discomfort” criteria.

I phoned up D.W.P Office (who deal with D.L.A) and they said that when I have received the Decision Letter to phone them back and say I want a “Re-Consideration”.

Also I now have further proof of Mobility Issues via letters from my Doctor which would go in my favour.

I know people who have ran the marathon who get High Rate MOBILITY who SHOULDN’T get it. I am not being greedy by wanting it. I feel because of my disabilities I should get it like other Disabled people.

For the record, I am registered as “Disabled” and have a Blue Badge. I was also allocated a DownStairs Flat via Direct Match Scheme (For Disabled) meaning I didn’t have to bid on properties or wait on a list to get a flat.

I am worried that if I ask for a “Re-Consideration” that I’ll put the High Rate CARE in jeopardy as it is my belief that they look at the whole claim again. Do you think I should just leave it be or ask them to “Re-Consider”?

Oh and my last question, Do they JUST look at the MOBILITY side again or do they take the WHOLE claim into consideration when looking again?

Thanks!

Lin. xXx

P.S..
1. Please don’t tell me I am a “Benefit Scrounger” because I am NOT. I worked since age 13 doing menial jobs to give my Mum money until I could work properly at age 16. I became to ill to work when my Schizophrenia became really bad.

2. Please don’t tell me to get a job. I tried to get off Benefit’s by doing “Permitted Work” and lasted 2 days. I couldn’t cope with everyone staring at me and thinking they were going to attack me. Also, I wear a layer of tin foil under my hat when I go out so people can’t read my thoughts. I wasn’t allowed to wear it to work (Argos). I lasted 2 days!

3. I am NOT “Trolling”. This is a genuine question and I value people’s opinions.

4. Please don’t make nasty comments about me being on Benefits. If you haven’t had any Disabilities/Mental Illnesses then you have NO idea what it’s like for one who does.

Thanks.

emergency budget. new disability living allowance medical assessments….?

how would the new disability medical assessments work if you have been signed off from work for life and recieving higher rate care and lower rate mobility would you still need to attend this stupid medical?
i agree with you saying that it is too weed out those that are capable for work. but to let you understand my partner is unable to work he has problems with his hands, and now losing his eye sight due to his diabetes. amongst deep depression and other things
the medical assessment is only stupid as there will be people that will not be able to work so therefore wasting time and resources. however as one person said it will wave out those that can work

I dont understand how much I’m getting?)

UK Question: How bad do you have to be to get Disability Living allowance at the highest rate?

I have chronic pain and severely affected mobility due to suffering with rotational scoliosis and osteoarthritis in both hips and the L5 area of my spine. I am finding it hard to find work which I am able to do for long periods. Just started a new job 10 days ago and find that the chronic pain and the overload of painkillers is forcing me to give up work so soon after starting this job. All I get is a measly £16.40 a week. How can I live on that, its not even enough to get me to and from work by taxi cos walking is extremely uncomfortable for me…. if there is any Dept of Work and Pensions people reading this, please advise. Thank you.
Because I am on the lowest rate of benefit I do not qualify for help with prescription charges, free transport i.e. buses, or any other hand outs others get.

I have appealed several times and it has taken me 7 months to get this. Suppose they at least now acknowledge I do have a degenerative condition.

Disability Living Allowance (High Mobility)?

Posted: June 7th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Q & A | Tags: , , , , | 1 Comment »

I have been receiving DLA at Highest Care and Low Mobility for 18 months now and I have just got through my confirmation that I am entitled this for another two years.

The question I wish to ask is, ‘is there any way I can claim High Mobility’? I suffer from depression, anxiety and Schizo-affective Disdorder. I am unable to travel on public transport because people are following me and taking notes about me and are planning against me and I become extremely distressed. I have doctor, therapist and psychiatrist notes to confirm this.

Is there any way I can apply for higher mobility?

Can you learn how to drive from 16 in the UK if you are on disability living allowance?

I got my provisional letters today and it says “To drive a car at 16 because i am getting disability living allowance (mobility component) at the higher rate”.

If i get £250 disability living allowance then what will the mobility car scheme be like for me, I live in uk?
