Just been awarded High Rate CARE (Disability Living Allowance)…. Advice please..?

Hi there,

Originally I was claiming D.L.A at Middle Rate CARE and Low Rate MOBILITY.

Just been awarded High Rate CARE for Paranoid Schizophrenia and MOBILITY Rate staying same. But I wanted High Rate MOBILITY….

That is because I have misaligned knee caps, weak ankles from a child hood injury that sometimes give way causing me to collapse, chronic muscle pain in my legs and severe Asthma which leaves me breathless.

I believe I would qualify on the “Can only walk a short distance before feeling severe discomfort” criteria.

I phoned up D.W.P Office (who deal with D.L.A) and they said that when I have received the Decision Letter to phone them back and say I want a “Re-Consideration”.

Also I now have further proof of Mobility Issues via letters from my Doctor which would go in my favour.

I know people who have ran the marathon who get High Rate MOBILITY who SHOULDN’T get it. I am not being greedy by wanting it. I feel because of my disabilities I should get it like other Disabled people.

For the record, I am registered as “Disabled” and have a Blue Badge. I was also allocated a DownStairs Flat via Direct Match Scheme (For Disabled) meaning I didn’t have to bid on properties or wait on a list to get a flat.

I am worried that if I ask for a “Re-Consideration” that I’ll put the High Rate CARE in jeopardy as it is my belief that they look at the whole claim again. Do you think I should just leave it be or ask them to “Re-Consider”?

Oh and my last question, Do they JUST look at the MOBILITY side again or do they take the WHOLE claim into consideration when looking again?

Thanks!

Lin. xXx

P.S..
1. Please don’t tell me I am a “Benefit Scrounger” because I am NOT. I worked since age 13 doing menial jobs to give my Mum money until I could work properly at age 16. I became to ill to work when my Schizophrenia became really bad.

2. Please don’t tell me to get a job. I tried to get off Benefit’s by doing “Permitted Work” and lasted 2 days. I couldn’t cope with everyone staring at me and thinking they were going to attack me. Also, I wear a layer of tin foil under my hat when I go out so people can’t read my thoughts. I wasn’t allowed to wear it to work (Argos). I lasted 2 days!

3. I am NOT “Trolling”. This is a genuine question and I value people’s opinions.

4. Please don’t make nasty comments about me being on Benefits. If you haven’t had any Disabilities/Mental Illnesses then you have NO idea what it’s like for one who does.

Thanks.

View: http://disabilityblogger.blogspot.com/ Google: “chat rooms + forums; disability” and ask there.
I’m disabled, but am in Australia, where the situatiion is different. Take at least 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, (high in E.P.A.) or the recommended dose of a high quality of fish oil daily, like Carlsons, or Melrose: (certified free of mercury) it is best if consumed with an antioxidant, such as an orange, or its FRESHLY SQUEEZED juice. If vitamin E is added, it should be certified as being 100% from natural sources, or it may be synthetic: avoid it! Females may benefit by balancing the DHA, & EPA versions of Omega 3 in fish, or krill** oil with ALA flaxseed oil Omega 3, or at least one heaped tablespoonful of ground flaxseed, daily. Vegetarians: Google: “Omega 3; algae; supplies” and use with flaxseed. Use the http://www.mercola.com ** SEARCHBAR. Dr. J Cannell, at http://vitaminDcouncil.org recommends 20,000iu of vitamin D3 daily, with frequent testing to ensure levels of at least 100nmol/l are maintained, for psychosis, and then reduce to around 5000 IU daily (Dr. Mercola recommends 5000 IU to 8000 IU for most healthy people). Dr. Kim, at http://www.drbenkim.com holds similar views.

FOR PEOPLE NOT SUFFERING FROM PSYCHOSIS (HALLUCINATIONS & DELUSIONAL STATES): Dr Mercola, at http://www.mercola.com advises: in the winter months, if not getting sufficient daily exposure to strong light, go to a doctor and ask for a 25(OH)D, also called 25-hydroxyvitamin D, blood test. When you get the results, don’t follow the typical “normal” reference range, as these are too low. The OPTIMAL value that you’re looking for is 45-52 ng/ml (115-128 nmol/l)”. The company which tests your levels has to be one of those using the correct form of test, and this topic is addressed via the searchbar at Mercola.com – “vitamin D3; testing”. View http://drbenkim.com/vitamin-d-facts.htm & http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/12/16/my-one-hour-vitamin-d-lecture-to-clear-up-all-your-confusion-on-this-vital-nutrient.aspx 59% of Americans are deficient in the extremely important vitamin D3, with their lowest levels occurring in late winter, and early spring. Canadians get even less sunlight exposure. People with the lowest levels are 11 times more likely to suffer depression (psychosis can occur with major depression).

Dr. Cannell advises that the co-factors most often deficient in the American diet, and necessary to optimise its absorption, and utilisation are magnesium, zinc, boron, and vitamin K2. I recommend using either health food/vitamin stores, or Googling: ” … ; supplies” rather than risking any old, or substandard products at supermarkets, or even on pharmacy shelves.
The Omega 3 and vitamin D3 will act as preventatives for a wide variety of disorders and diseases, both physical and psychological, as well as boosting your immune system, and are 2 that most people in Western countries are deficient in, so I suggest that you recommend them to others as well. The best dietary source of vitamin K2 is natto (Only FERMENTED soy products, like natto are safe for females).
