Broken Wrist, need advice!?
Posted: May 9th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Q & A | Tags: Advice, Broken, need, Wrist | 1 Comment »So I broke my wrist about 2 and a half weeks ago, I went to the hospital and they X ray’d me and stuff and found out it was a anatomical snuffbox fracture, they didn’t tell me how serious it was or anything and they put a cast on my hand all the way up to my elbow which is INCREDIBLY uncomfortable.
I recently went back to the hospital and they said I now need a CAT scan and then ‘may’ need an operation.. this is two weeks from now.
So my problem is i got my cast soaking wet today and its incredibly uncontrollably wrecking my world! so I want it OFF, i have a decent tool to get it off without causing me pain, the advice I NEED is..
Will I be OK for two weeks (maybe shorter) with something like this ‘http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-Wrist-Support-Brace-Splint-Carpal-Tunnel-L-R-/190433067946?pt=UK_Health_Beauty_Mobility_Disability_Medical_ET#ht_7154wt_911′ supporting me instead of the cast?
Going back to the hospital for a new cast is out of the question, i know i’m stupid, but i really can’t do it, sorry.
Thanks in advance for ‘useful, non-negative responses’.

Hey thanks for your reply, my cast isn’t actually a plaster one, its that tough stuff like mesh or something, its very hard and irritating.
And for the taking off part I have these very slim sharp scissors that I can easily slip down and snip it off without causing myself harm, this one I have on now is even giving me blisters around my thumb
I broke my wrist as well. I went swimming with it on and it got wet. I used a blowdryer on low to dry it off. As long as the plaster hasn’t reshaped then you should actually be OK. A brace wouldn’t work unless it is very specificlly made and prescribed by an orthopedist. And if the plaster is sloppy, you don’t have to go to the hospital. Call the doctors office and explain the situation. Normally they’ll get you in right away and in 10 minutes you’re out the door. Another thing. NEVER TAKE A CAST OFF ON YOUR OWN!!!!!!! You could very seriously harm yourself.
Hope this helps!
