You’ve got to attend court when the Attorney Generals Office file child support but how can a disabled parent attend court? I won’t get to technical about my medical problem but that I have a mobility problem which is often discriminated against because my disability is not visible. So the mother and the children suffer once again by the system. The Great US of A.

So I broke my wrist about 2 and a half weeks ago, I went to the hospital and they X ray’d me and stuff and found out it was a anatomical snuffbox fracture, they didn’t tell me how serious it was or anything and they put a cast on my hand all the way up to my elbow which is INCREDIBLY uncomfortable.
I recently went back to the hospital and they said I now need a CAT scan and then ‘may’ need an operation.. this is two weeks from now.
So my problem is i got my cast soaking wet today and its incredibly uncontrollably wrecking my world! so I want it OFF, i have a decent tool to get it off without causing me pain, the advice I NEED is..
Will I be OK for two weeks (maybe shorter) with something like this ‘http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-Wrist-Support-Brace-Splint-Carpal-Tunnel-L-R-/190433067946?pt=UK_Health_Beauty_Mobility_Disability_Medical_ET#ht_7154wt_911′ supporting me instead of the cast?
Going back to the hospital for a new cast is out of the question, i know i’m stupid, but i really can’t do it, sorry.
Thanks in advance for ‘useful, non-negative responses’.

Hey thanks for your reply, my cast isn’t actually a plaster one, its that tough stuff like mesh or something, its very hard and irritating.
And for the taking off part I have these very slim sharp scissors that I can easily slip down and snip it off without causing myself harm, this one I have on now is even giving me blisters around my thumb

July 23, 2010, the Attorney General signed the Final Rule for the changes in the Title II and Title III Regulations for the ADA, including changing the definition of “service animal.”
This change will become effective 6 months after it is published.
Here it is folks:
“Service animal means any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability. Other species of animals, whether wild or domestic, trained or untrained, are not service animals for the purposes of this definition. The work or tasks performed by a service animal must be directly related to the handler´s disability. Examples of work or tasks include, but are not limited to, assisting individuals who are blind or have low vision with navigation and other tasks, alerting individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing to the presence of people or sounds, providing non-violent protection or rescue work, pulling a wheelchair, assisting an individual during a seizure, alerting individuals to the presence of allergens, retrieving items such as medicine or the telephone, providing physical support and assistance with balance and stability to individuals with mobility disabilities, and helping persons with psychiatric and neurological disabilities by preventing or interrupting impulsive or destructive behaviors. The crime deterrent effects of an animal´s presence and the provision of emotional support, well-being, comfort, or companionship do not constitute work or tasks for the purposes of this definition.”
Is it what you expected? Do you love it? Hate it? How will it effect you personally?
http://www.ada.gov/regs2010/titleII_2010/reg2_2010.html
This is basically a clarification of the old definition, which is, “Service animal means any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including, but not limited to, guiding individuals with impaired vision, alerting individuals with impaired hearing to intruders or sounds, providing minimal protection or rescue work, pulling a wheelchair, or fetching dropped items.”
There were some abuses with strange species being used as well as attack dogs being claimed as service dogs.
I’m happy and relieved with the changes. I think it will reduce at least some of the abuses.

Nowhere does the Americans with Disabilities Act (that I can find) list a wheelchair as being a piece of furniture (like a desk or table) but rather, only as a mobility device. Furthermore, no furniture stores carry wheelchairs.

I would be extremely grateful if someone can help me i am on the lower rate for mobility disability component my health has deteriorated so i tried to claim the higher rate but i was told i am not eligible because i am over the age of 65 which i found strange because the older you get the chances are more that your health will deteriorate and now i cannot claim a car on the motobility scheme which would be a great benefit to me so i could get out and about a bit more i really don’t know what to do can someone help.
Many thanks

I work in community mental health, and have a BA in Psych. Most of my experience is with people with mental or developmental disabilities. I want to do something different with my life. How do I get in with the federal government? Are there any entry level positions or posititions that will train you if you don’t have all the qualifications? Does anyone know about the upward mobility program?

I saw my doctor today and he told me that if I can’t lower my A1c by August he will have to put me on the injections. I don’t want that. I am disabled which limits what I can do for exercise. My disability is a mobility one and so walking isn’t really an option. Any advice? Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
